When
I first went to China there were very few bibles available,
believers were copying scripture by hand from borrowed
books, and even memorizing whole books that would then
later be recited in the house groups! Often times there
would be one bible shared among many underground groups,
taking turns among them to have the copy for a short
time. We had to smuggle bibles in with every group that
went in. Good thing I had a background in smuggling!

Do
you know that we never had a bag opened that had bibles
in it? Never, not once! Amazing how God protects His
word, and His faithful servants!
Things
are different now. The International Bible Society has
partnered with the Chinese government church, what we
call the open church, to make bibles available. Now
we can buy really great bibles in almost every city
where we have work.
In
my excitement at the new availability I had forgotten
that some still do not have one. Some because they can't
afford to buy one or others because they are not yet
believers.
We
can get really nice, whole bibles in simplified Chinese
for about US$1.20 each.
We
also have a great work going on in northwest china among
the Uighur people group. This is a Muslim group of over
7,000,000 people. They also need bibles. I have attached
a picture of a sample of the Uighur bible.
We

work with, get them into the hands of people who are
hungry for the knowledge that there is a God in heaven
that loves them and cares for them.
